Van's last skit! I'm not entirely sure of the context behind why Van and Alexei are meeting. It's probably because they're both cool Commandants in their respective games.

Anyway, here is Van's side of the two skits they got with their dual mirrage arte.

Charismatic Leader

Alexei: That’s all I have for today. If you learn anything new, please contact us via the mirrage communicator. 今回の情報提供は以上だ。また何か情報を掴んだ際には魔鏡通信などで連絡しよう。

Van: Thank you for the information, Commandant. I didn’t expect you to deliver it personally. 感謝します、団長殿。まさか、直々に出向いて下さるとは思いませんでした。

Alexei: I had to attend to some personal business. It just happened to be nearby. 野暮用があったのでな。偶然立ち寄ったに過ぎん。

Alexei: Since our exchange has concluded without incident, could you please tell your subordinates to relax? 無事交渉は終わったのだから部下たちに警戒を解くように指示してもらえないか？

Van: As expected, you noticed them. やはり、気付かれていましたか。

Alexei: Masking their presence so skillfully is to be expected of a Commandant’s subordinates, but it won’t work on me. 上手く気配を消しているのはさすが謡将の部下といったところだが残念ながら私には通用せん。

Van: I apologize for the discourtesy. You all may come out now. これは失礼しました。お前たち、もう出てきてよいぞ。

[ Legretta and Arietta emerge ]

Legretta: I’m sorry for the trouble, Alexei. 申し訳ありません、アレクセイ殿。

Legretta: However, I would like to correct your misconception. We made the decision to observe ourselves, we were not under Commandant Van’s orders. ですが、一つ訂正を。この場で待機していたのは、閣下の命令ではなく私たち自らの判断です。

Arietta: If anything happened to the Commandant, everyone would be in trouble. 総長に何かあったら、アリエッタたちも困る、です。

Alexei: I see, those are some admirable subordinates you have there. If only mine could learn from them. なるほど、随分と殊勝な部下をお持ちのようだ。私も見習いたいものだよ。

Van: Your compliment honors me. Still, I would like to apologize if their presence caused you any discomfort. お褒めに預かり光栄です。ですが、彼女たちの同行を不快に思わせてしまったらお詫びを申し上げましょう。

Alexei: Well now, it seems you’re quite popular. Unlike mine, your subordinates care about you a great deal. I envy you. なに、改めて謡将の人望を思い知らされた。私と違って、部下たちから慕われているようで羨ましい限りだ。

Van: That’s quite an insecure statement for someone who had led an entire country’s military, isn’t it? 一国の軍を率いていた人物としては少々弱気な発言と取れますが？

Alexei: That was in my previous life. Now I’m just a small man leading a small army. それもここに来るまでの話だ。今は小規模な軍隊を率いている矮小な人間だ。

Alexei: That’s why I have high hopes for a man such as yourself. And why I hope that you will come to me in due time. だからこそ、貴殿のような男には期待しているのだ。いずれ私のところへやって来てくれることを楽しみにさせてもらおう。

[ Alexei leaves ]

Arietta: Commandant, my friends are chasing that man, now. 総長。さっきの人、アリエッタのお友達に追いかけてもらってる。

Van: There’s no need for that. That man isn’t a threat to us. いや、その必要はない。こちらに害のある人物ではないからな。

Legretta: Still, that man believes he can entice you into his service. Didn’t those mirrists say he’s a man we should be wary of? しかし、あの者は閣下を仲間に引き入れようとしています。鏡士たちの話では警戒すべき要注意人物だということですが？

Van: They’re not wrong. However, he is still a useful man. It would behoove us to build a friendly relationship with him…for now. 確かにな。だが、それなりに利用価値はある。今は友好な関係を築いておくのが得策だろう。

Legretta: Understood. But, I would still appreciate it if you allowed us to accompany you the next time you decide to meet with that man. 承知しました。ですが、あの者との交渉の場には出来れば今回のように我々の同行を許可して頂けると助かります。

Legretta: I would never be able to look Tear in the eyes if anything happened to you. 閣下に何かあっ��は、私もティアに顔向けが出来ません。

Van: Very well. But, understand that if he becomes our enemy, we won’t get off lightly. よかろう。だが、もしあの御仁を敵に回すことになればこちらも只では済まないだろうな。

Legretta: Does he have some sort of power? あの者にどのような力が？

Van: He’s very skilled, but above that, he has a powerful ability to manipulate people. 腕も確かだが、何よりあの御仁は人を掌握する力に長けている。

Van: The fact that he was able to captivate so many people in the short time before he was turned into a Living Doll is proof of that. リビングドール化されるまでのわずかな時間で多くの帝国兵を心酔させたのが、その証拠だ。

Legretta: I’m surprised to hear you speak so highly of him… In that case, we will remain vigilant. 閣下がそれほどまでに評価するとは……。では、私たちも引き続き警戒しておきます。

Van: I entrust you with that. Still, to think he would try to make me one of his pawns. 任せ��ぞ。それにしても、この私さえ手駒に収めようとするとはな。

Van: Unfortunately, I’m no obedient pawn. He will learn that I am willing to abandon my humanity if need be. だが、生憎私は従順な駒ではない。時には背信棄義も厭わない人間だという事を知っておいてもらわねばな。

I love Sorey’s ending MA in Rays, Raijin Souhyoujin (雷迅創雹刃).

It is an Ice- and Lightning-elemental MA, the elements reflecting his connection to Mikleo and Gramps respectively. He’s really an Elysian through and through, in the end, going back to his origin (historical technicalities would make his hometown Camlann, but that’s just historical technicalities; his heart belongs to Elysia forever.)

Also love how they went for “雹” instead of plain “氷” for the “ひょう” part of the name. “雹” or “hail” in English, is a type of precipitation (condensation of water vapor) that usually gets formed during thunderstorms. Again, you could see the connection to his Elysian family.

雷を呼び、限界を超える全身全霊の一撃を放つ魔鏡技。 A mirrage arte that calls forth lightning and unleashes a blow of one’s whole body and soul transcending the limits.

Again with the 全身全霊/whole body and soul, but this time transcending even the limits. He even says it in the quote.

来たれ神雷！オレの全てで！限界を超える！ Come forth, divine thunder! With my everything! I will transcend the limits!

Popular theory has it that Sorey might be Heldalf’s biological son (there are more than just that one manga page supporting this theory, btw, hints were even in the game itself, but we’re not getting into this today) and in a way, he inherited Lion’s Howl (獅子戦吼) from him, so now even beyond that, he inherits one from his actual parent, the only one that matters to him.

I know Sorey being mostly associated with the Lightning element is not a new thing; after all, both his MAs in the original game, Bolt Tempest (雷迅双豹牙) and Divine Wrath (烈震神雷牙), are for all intent and purposes Lightning-elemental anyway, they’re only Void in the game because it’s Zestiria that classifies Lightning/Light and Dark under Void... but here are some other fun stuff while we’re at it:

Kimura Ryouhei (Sorey’s JP VA) suddenly tweeting Indignation chant, which made Indignation trended on Twitter on that day too. In Tales of Memoria, years before this tweet was even made, Tales-related questions were asked to the VAs, and one of the questions was what arte they would want to use, and Kimura answered Indignation to that.

Speaking of Indignation... I’ve always wondered why Sorey’s profile in Perfect Guide has Maotelus’ crest instead of the usual Shepherd’s dragon’s crest.

In the official Chinese localization of the game, Sorey’s name is rendered 史雷, very fitting for him since it consists of the characters for “history” and “lightning” and I will always love his Chinese name for this... really unintended meaningful name.

So yeah, Lightning child Sorey. As far as Sorey is concerned, Zenrus is his parent, the one who could give him more than enough love that he couldn’t get from the father and mother he’d never had.

It's been a crazy year. We finished Mirrage Prison full voice, and started streaming the wild ride that is Recollection every month. We even did some of this art on stream!

It's really thanks to everyone's kindness and support that I have the courage to live translate and have fun with the Rays streams! <3 I took a hiatus from what I loved mid way through, but I'm ready to get back on track next week!

And yet somehow, despite everything, I had art for every month except January! And so much of it was Kocis this year! I normally don't have enough to make one of these at the end of the year, so it's really nice. I'll try to draw even more next year!

Thank you to everyone for chilling with me for streams or otherwise! Here's to a better upcoming year. 🙏Happy New Year everyone.

So long Virtual Mirrage.

You’ve been my most faithful companion of these last 6 years. You’ve been with me through the most chaotic parts of my life thus far, through the ups and downs. You provided an escape from from the harshities of real life. Together we saw countless worlds, Including some of the real one, And made a few more worlds. Together we made short-films and songs, animation and audio-drama, websites and world-building, pictures and poetry; art.

I’m sorry we never played a VR-game together as promised. I’m sorry I didn’t boot you up for a 10-month period of your last year and a half.

Your files are all backed up, and maybe a semblance of a soul with them. Perhaps some of your will live on in my next computer if we successfully install some of your harddrives into it. But I still feel grief that you will never boot up again.

CHAPTER 6: THE ATONING HERO AND REMORSEFUL CHOSEN (PART 7)

You know, I think Chapter 6 of Mirrage Prison is one of my favorite chapters. That's probably because Sync appears in it so frequently, haha. Anyway, we're back aboard the Kerykeion with the Salvation Front. Let's see what the characters have to say about recent developments...

Part 7 (Imperial Capital Hy'Brasail)

Mark: How’s it going, Gareth? Making sense of what Cecily gave us? どうだ、ガロウズ。セシリイからの資料は。

Gareth: …If Shing’s Soma can do what Cecily is describing, then it’s possible that he can repair people’s cores. ……シングの持つソーマにセシリイが言うような機能があるなら心核へのアプローチと修復は可能だ。

Gareth: But— ただ——

Mark: But what? What’s with that expression on your face? ただ？何だよ、妙な顔して。

Gareth: I’m just wondering when Cecily became so knowledgeable about mirrages and mirrage artes. Especially Bifrost’s mirrages… 何でセシリイがこんなに魔鏡や魔鏡術に詳しいのかと思ってな。それもビフレストの魔鏡術に……。

Mark: What, you didn’t teach her all that? 何でって、あんたが教えたんじゃないのか？

Gareth: She asked to be my apprentice, but she’s just a kid. I only taught her basic techniques. 弟���にしてくれと押しかけられはしたがまだ子供だぞ。基本的な技術しか教えてない。

Gareth: She shouldn’t be capable of this level of research. こんなレベルの研究ができるような奴じゃないんだ。

[ CRESS AND PHILLIP ENTER ]

Mark: Hold up, Phil. How’s Ami’s condition? おっと、フィル。アミィはどうだった？

Phillip: I’ve confirmed that she has a damaged core. Something must have happened to it. 確認できたよ。確かに心核が傷ついていた。何らかの形で心核に接触したんだろう。

Phillip: I might be able to repair it with my mirrage, but I want to play it safe and wait for Chester to get back first. 僕の魔鏡術でも修復可能かも知れないがここは安全第一にチェスターの帰りを待つつもりだ。

Cress: I hope Chester and everyone are all right. チェスターたちは大丈夫でしょうか。

Mark: Infiltrating the Empire is dangerous but he’s got Sync with him, as well as Kratos and Zelos. They’re all pretty skilled. いま帝国にあいつが潜入するのは危険かもしれないな。だがシンクもいるしクラトスもゼロスもかなり腕が立つ。

Mark: I’m sure they’ll make contact with Shing. きっとシングに接触してくれる筈だ。

Cress: Right… All right, Chester, do your best…! そうだね……。チェスター、頑張れ……！

[ SCENE CHANGE ]

Chester: *sighs* ……はぁぁぁ。

Kratos: …Heh. ……フフッ。

Chester: Don’t laugh!! 笑うな！！

Sync: How can we not when you were clinging to Kratos and shrieking like that? そりゃ、笑うでしょ。野太い悲鳴上げてクラトスにしがみついてたんだから。

Chester: He scooped me up and dove out of the Kerykeion’s hatch without any warning!! Who wouldn’t start screaming!? いきなり背負われたと思ったらケリュケイオンのハッチから空にダイブされたんだぞ！？驚くのは当たり前だろ！？

Zelos: We couldn’t enter the Imperial City from the front since we’ve got a guy with a well-known face. A member of the Four Phantom Generals: Chester the Magic Arrow. わりいなあ。顔が割れてる奴を連れてるから正面から帝都に入る訳には行かなかったんだよ。四幻将・魔弓のチェスター様。

Chester: Don’t call me that, you idiot! その名前で呼ぶな馬鹿野郎っ！

[ ENTER ASTOR ]

Astor: Things are quite lively, aren’t they, hee hee hee! 随分と賑やかでございますなぁイヒヒヒヒ！

Chester: Oh, uh, sorry… We had to break into your garden to hide out. あ、悪い……。突然庭に侵入して匿って貰ったのに、騒いだりして。

Astor: No worries, no worries. I heard all about you from the Sparrowfeathers. いえいえ、全てはセキレイの羽の方からご連絡をいただいております。

Astor: You want to speak with Shing Meteor of the Imperial Guard, right? 帝国軍のシング・メテオライト様とつなぎを取りたいとのことでしたね。

Kratos: That’s right. But are you sure you want to help us? その通りだ。しかし、我らに荷担して大丈夫なのか？

Astor: Oh, we’re not a charity. I have every intention of getting a fair price out of this. 私どもも慈善事業ではございませんからそれなりの対価を求めるつもりではおりますよ。

Kratos: You have to be aware of our lack of funds. Is there something else you’re after? 我らに資金がないことは想像が付いていると思うがそれ以外のものを求めると言うことか。

Astor: The Salvation Front is going to suffer without supplies. I’m sure you at least have money for that. 救世軍の方々も補給無しでは苦しゅうございましょう。少なくともその為の資金は残しておられる筈。

Astor: I’d be happy to help you all resupply when the time comes, hee hee hee. 私どもはその補給のお手伝いをさせて頂ければと思う次第でございます。イヒヒヒヒヒヒ。

Sync: …So, even in this world, Astor’s got the spirit of a capitalist. ……この世界でもアスターは商魂たくましいってことか。

[ ENTER HILDA ]

Hilda: …This world? ……この、世界？

Sync: …Nevermind that. Where’s Shing? ……何でもないよ。で、シングはどこにいるのさ。

Astor: Hilda is close friends with Shing. She will take care of everything. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some business to attend to. シング様とはヒルダが親しくしております。全てはヒルダにお任せ下さい。私は所用にてこれで失礼致します。

Astor: Well, Hilda, I’ll be leaving the rest to you. では、ヒルダ。後は頼みますよ。

Hilda: …What exactly do the Sparrowfeathers want with Astor? ……セキレイの羽ってのはアスター様を何だと思ってるのよ。

Chester: I’m sorry. I know you helped Karol and the others last time, too. 悪い。前回はカロルたちが力を借りたんだったな。

Hilda: So, can you explain to me why you want to meet Shing? How I arrange this will depend on what you want with him. で、どうしてシングに会いたいのか説明してくれるかしら。それによって引き合わせ方も違ってくるから。

[ FADE TO BLACK ]

Hilda: …I see. If that’s the case, then I should pass on the message that Aster told Mithos. I think it would be best for you all to know. ……そう。だとしたら、アステルからミトスに当てた伝言も、あんたたちに伝えておいた方がよさそうね。

Sync: Aster? As I recall, wasn’t he acquainted with Richter of the Four Phantom Generals? アステル？確かそれって四幻将のリヒターの知り合いじゃなかった？

Chester: Yeah. Aster is a friend that Richter lost in their original world. ああ。リヒターが元の世界で亡くしたダチだって言ってたな。

Hilda: Yes. He’s a free spirit—in more ways than one. ええ。色々と自由な子でね。

Hilda: Aster is researching spirits on behalf of the Empire, but he’s often out of his office wandering around the capital. 帝国で精霊の研究をしてるんだけどしょっちゅう抜け出して帝都をふらふらしてるのよ。

Hilda: Aster was the one who told Mithos that Martel had been taken. ミトスにマーテルが攫われたことを知らせたのもアステルなの。

Kratos: …Hilda, what exactly was Aster’s message? ……ヒルダ。アステルからミトスへの伝言というのは？

Hilda: —Martel’s current location. ——マーテルの居場所よ。

Zelos: Seriously!? How did he figure that out!? マジかよ！？どうやって調べたんだ！？

Hilda: Well, he started talking about probability and psychological distance and other things… さぁ。確率がどうとか心理的距離がどうとか色々言ってたけれど……。

Hilda: Besides, from what you all have said, it would be dangerous to leave Mithos alone. それよりあんたたちの話を聞く限りミトスを放っておくのは危険でしょう。

Kratos: …It is. In our original world, the anger and grief of losing Martel swept away all of Mithos’ reason. ……そうだな。あれは元の世界でもマーテルを失って、怒りと悲しみが理性を押し流した。

Kratos: No one in this world will be able to stop Mithos if he loses Martel again. この世界でもマーテルを失え��もう誰もミトスを止められぬ。

Kratos: I wasn’t able to protect Martel either. In this world, I want to save her, even if nothing in this world is real. それに私もマーテルを守れなかった。この世界では救ってやりたい。たとえここが影の国であってもな。

Hilda: That boy is a half-elf, isn’t he? Both elf and human. ハーフなんでしょう、あの子。エルフと人間の。

Kratos: Yes, he’s been hurt many times because of that. ああ、その為に何度も傷つけられてきた。

Hilda: …I see. How strange. It seems that half-breeds keep gathering around me for some reason. ……そう。不思議ね。何故か私の周りにはハーフの子たちが集まってくるみたい。

Sync: Are there any half-elves here aside from Mithos? ミトスの他にもハーフェルフがいるの？

Hilda: …Not specifically half-elves. It seems that strange things always happen when two worlds join together. ……エルフじゃないけどね。異世界のヒトが色々集まると妙なこともあるもんだわ。

Hilda: Now then, let’s be off. Shing is at I Pucelle Castle right now. さて、それじゃあ行きましょうか。シングはいまイ・ラプセル城にいるのよ。

Hilda: I would have preferred to use the underground passages, but security is getting tighter. We’ll be going through the city, which is going to be more dangerous. 地下通路が使えれば良かったんだけど今は警備が厳しくなってるから多少危険でも街を抜けていくわ。

Hilda: Once we get to the castle, it will be easy to get inside. 城にさえ着けば、中に入るのは簡単よ。

Sync: You’re saying its security is weak? 城の警備が手薄ってこと？

Hilda: The people in charge of security there are Astor’s subordinates. 警備担当の人間がアスター様の手の者なのよ。

Zelos: Okay then, let’s get going. Remember, my sweet Hilda, do your best not to fall in love with me! よっしゃ、それじゃあ行くとするか。俺さまの華麗な活躍を見て惚れるなよヒルダちゃん！

Hilda: —Sweet Hilda…? ——ヒルダ、ちゃん……？

Zelos: Ah, those irresistible cold eyes… I think I might die! あー、その冷たい目がたまらない。俺さまもだえちゃう！

Hilda: First that old Raven person, now this guy…? You people seem to be seriously short on manpower. これといい、前のレイヴンとか言う奴といいあんたたちのところは深刻な人材不足みたいね。

Sync: It’s more like we’re well-stocked with human resources. In a bad way. むしろ人材が豊富なんじゃない？悪い意味で。

Kratos: …I-I’m sorry. ……す、すまぬ。

Estelle gets a genshin au because I love her and she deserves attention.

Anyways! Sword user and hydro vision with a focus on healing, she hails from Fontaine and comes from a noble family. Growing up, she was very sheltered and really had only her books and cousins for friends. Had daydreamed a lot about the fun adventures she’d have once she becomes an adult and was able to leave the mansion she spent her life in.

When her 18th birthday was approaching, she overheard her parents having a private conversation about her--talk about marrying her off to increase the connections they had.

Perhaps it was selfish of her, but when she realized that her desire for freedom would be unfulfilled should she stay home, she immediately set about packing her bags to escape. And escape she did, with words of apology written down in letters that she left in her room.

Having only books as reference for how the outside world functions, she was unprepared for the necessities that require mora. Things like getting a room at an inn, or buying ingredients for cooking... it took some tries before she got used to the process. And though she’s read all about how to cook or bandage wounds, they were still things that she’s a beginner at.

She treats everyone she meets with kindness and respect, and will do her best to help anyone who needed it. It was after one of those encounters that she found her hydro vision, on top of the medical kit she used at that time as if it was there from the start.
